Would you take a job as a new driver that wants you to pay for APU and/or Inverter? | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum

11

As a newer CDL driver, some of the jobs I have looked at that I can qualify for says that you have the option to add an APU and/or Inverter on your dime. This seems troubling to me if they are offering it, why it’s on your dime.

Is that something standard or acceptable?

I personally don’t want to pay money out of my own pocket to add equipment to a company’s truck that I am not going to be coming home with that equipment, and further won’t have a need for it later.

I would venture to guess if they don’t have inverter’s already installed, that also means they won’t have microwaves and refrigerators, and for me, I am not willing to buy all that stuff myself to go OTR for anyone. If something goes wrong down the line, and the truck needs to be dropped back off in another state and I am flying home or something, I am not getting that equipment home with me and that’s not worth it to me.

It also seems that if they are not willing to provide that stuff for you to live in their truck, then anything else cost related will be a problem down the road in dealing with them.

Am I wrong for thinking this way?
